Our assessment

The right shape of counterparty for a registry whose rules turn on an address in Japan that answers post. It is a JPRS designated registrar, accredited as AGNT-1643, and it publishes the Specified Commercial Transactions Act disclosure Japanese law obliges a trader to publish: the operating entity Taka Enterprise Ltd, its registered office at Nishi-shinjuku in Shinjuku-ku, a Tokyo telephone and fax number, its payment methods, and a personal-data request procedure. Almost nobody else selling .jp to foreign buyers names a legal entity at all. The domain is $49 a year, $35 for a first year, with the local-presence requirement met at no additional charge and free transfers out. It is also the only provider that describes .co.jp correctly in public, including the one-domain-per-company rule. The weakness is that it never states whose name and address go on the registrant record under the general .jp arrangement, publishes no exit terms for that service, and excludes cancellations and refunds once a registration completes.

Where this provider appears

What is checked

Per-TLD fees and five-year totals, the contract terms on surrender and transfer, the legal entity that becomes the registrant of record in each country, non-payment behaviour, and what shows in each registry's public lookup. Figures are published only once verified against the provider's current pricing, with a date. Ratings are given per extension in each comparison table, weigh contract transparency, exit terms and holding structure ahead of price, and are not affected by affiliate arrangements because there are none.

Last checked September 2026. The assessment is editorial and based on the provider's published terms and public register data. Spotted something out of date? Email info@trusteeindex.com.
